During the age of Pericles, Carthaginian merchants trading gold on the other side of Gibraltar would tell this story: after crossing a desert miraculously dotted with wells and oases, populated only by roaming nomads and wild beasts, you will reach a fabulous mountain.

A minimum of 3 days are required in order to descend the Akka’n Taghia. The canyon doesn’t present any particular difficulties –none of the jumps exceed 10m. The walk there is breathtaking, arguably more so than the canyon itself.
Cross bridges worthy of an Indiana Jones movie, dangling over 200m of thin air!

• Day 1 : Transport to Zaouia Ahansal (5 hour drive from Marrakech), then walk to Taghia (2h30 trek with a mule to carry the bags)

The Akka’n Tafraout canyon is probably the deepest and narrowest of all Moroccan canyons. Just stretch out your arms and you will touch the walls of the canyon towering 700m above you… Finding it hard to picture? Then come check it out!
We will reach the start of the canyon after a day of trekking, starting in Taghia.
The path leads us along a frequently snowy pass, over 3600m high, our mules will be carrying our canyoning and camp gear.
We then descend to lower altitudes and join a small snaky river on the high plateaus: the Akka’n Tafraout.
Time to set up camp, relax and share a well deserved meal. Fall asleep to an unforgettable night under the starry sky, listening to Berber lullabies that echo through the mountains.
We wake at 7am, to set off on the amazing canyon descent, which will finally lead back to the small town of Taghia.

Aller faire la descente de l’akka’n Taghia requiert un minimum de 3 jours.
Ce petit canyon ne présente aucune difficulté en soi, les rappels n’excédant que rarement les 10m.
Cependant sa marche d’approche est mythique, peut-être plus encore que le canyon en lui-même.
Un pont suspendu plein gaz (200m de vide) pure produit local digne d’Indiana Jones vous attend !

Le canyon Akka’n Tafraout est peut-être le plus encaissé et le plus isolé des canyons marocain.
A certain moment vous pourrez écarter les bras et toucher les 2 parois tandis qu’elles culmineront à plus de 700m de hauteur au dessus de votre tête… Dur à imaginer ! Alors venez le vivre !
On atteint le départ du canyon par une journée de rando au départ de Taghia.
L’itinéraire passe un col à près de 3600m, parfois sous la neige, les mules portent le matériel de canyon et de bivouac.
On redescend ensuite vers de plus basses altitudes pour rejoindre l’akka’n Tafraout, petite rivière serpentant sur les hauts plateaux et abreuvant les populations de nomades locales.
Un bivouac est vite monté, un repas bien mérité, et une nuit inoubliable vous attend sous les étoiles, bercée par des chants berbère envoutant.
7h du mat il faut déjà rapidement se réveiller pour entamer l’incroyable descente du canyon qui, après d’innombrable ressauts, débouche enfin sur le village de Taghia quitté la veille, la boucle est bouclée.
